Classes for Children

Summer Art Camp Instructors Susan Tharin and Julia Jensen

Students learn and have fun with hands-on experience in painting, bead making, mosaic glasswork, wirework and much more. Emphasis on using recycled objects and turning them into usable artworks.
One week session: 9:00 AM 12:00 PM each day.Ages 7 years and up

Tennis for Kids – Instructor Tari Ann Toro 
An introduction to tennis for kids; improve hand-eye coordination, fitness and learn the basic principles of tennis.

Four day sessions: Mon. – Thurs.; June 21 –  24; July 12 – 15; July 26 – 29; Aug. 2 – 5.
Ages 4 – 5 years: 3:00 – 3:45 PM each day.
Ages 6 – 8 years: 4:00 – 5:00 PM each day.
Fee:  $35.00 per session.

Classes for Adults

One Stroke Painting 
Instructor Charlie McGee is certified in one-stroke, home studio clay and high definition.  This fun, fast painting technique developed by Donna Dewberry will make an artist out of you!  The class will feature working with acrylic paints but will also offer opportunities to work with polymer clay and high definition paints to add dimension to your work.  Designed for beginners and experienced students, each project will present new prospects for learning.  Ages 16 & up.  Fee: $60.00 each 4 week session or $15.00 per class drop-in rate.  This is an on-going class meeting Thursday nights from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  Contact Charlie at mssurfdog@aol.com for more information and to register.  

Glass Bead Making for Beginners  - instructor Cynthia Tucker, Cynthia’s business, Sea of Glass , features her handmade beads and jewelry.  She sells her work at the Poplar Grove and Downtown Riverfront Farmers’ Markets and enjoys teaching others to make their own glass beads.  This class in beginning glass bead making will teach students how to use a torch for melting glass to make their own colorful beads!  Various methods will be taught to add decoration and effects using tool techniques, stringer and twisted cane.  The class will also cover basic safety information, types of glass, equipment and tools.  For ages 18 years and up, no experience required.  Each session meets on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 4:30 PM.  Scheduled dates are May 8, 29.  Future dates and registration may be requested by contacting Cynthia at seaofglass.designs@gmail.com.  Fee: $175.00 per session includes $40.00 supplies fee.  15% discount off the $135.00 registration fee offered for family members taking the class together.

 

Fun & Creativity on Farmers’ Market Wednesdays  

We have several class opportunities on Wednesdays, in conjunction with our weekly Farmers’ Market, come out and enjoy shopping the market, take a class and make it a fun day!  Contact the individual instructor to schedule a class with one of the market vendors.  

 Hammered Dulcimer Workshop - instructor Cindy Rhodes , aka, Mermaid Morrigan

Cindy is a classically trained musician; composing and performing her original compositions for the piano and hammered dulcimer at the Farmers’ Market each Wednesday.  Cindy will be accepting reservations for private lessons, offering one-on-one experience with Cindy and the hammered dulcimer.   Each Wednesday, (weather permitting), immediately following the Farmers’ Market at 1:00 PM take a 20 minute lesson.  Learn the basics of the history, mechanics and the art of the hammered dulcimer and make music with Cindy.  See more about Cindy and her work at www.mermaidmansion.com.

Jewelry Making Workshops - instructor Cynthia Tucker, an arts and crafts vendor at the farmers’ market and creator of Sea of Glass Designs , is offering jewelry making workshops during the market.  Bring your girl friends or make it a mother daughter experience (ages 12 & up).  Join Cynthia for 1 hour workshops to create your own unique jewelry using her handmade lamp worked glass beads, genuine Swarovski crystals and sterling silver.  All tools will be provided for your use and all supplies are included in the fee.  Bring a friend or two, (Cynthia will teach for 2 or more), and make it a fun, creative experience!   

Chose to create a pendant, earrings or a bracelet.   Class time:  11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Contact Cynthia at seaofglass.designs@gmail.com to schedule a class date.  Also offered on Monday nights, 6:00 – 7:30 PM, if you prefer.     

Fee: Bracelet class - $50.00, includes a $25.00 materials fee, extra material kits are available for $25.00 if you’d like to make more than one bracelet.

Fee: Earrings or Pendant class - $35.00, includes a $10.00 materials fee, extra material kits are available for $10.00 if you’d like to make more than one piece.  

Cooking Classes at the Farmers’ Market  

Farmers’ Market chef, Alexis Fouros offers cooking classes during the Wednesday market.  Please see the schedule on the Farmers’ Market webpage.  Pre-registration is required and you must contact the chef to register.  Class will be cancelled if required number of registrations is not met.
